Using your own cloud (Dropbox, iCloud, and others)
Last updated: 2026-05-29
ADR Sentinel has no cloud of its own — your cases are plain JSON files on your machine. But because they're ordinary files in a folder, you can sync them across your own devices using whatever cloud service you already trust. The app never sees a cloud API; your sync provider does all the work.
How it works
- Open Settings → Cloud Sync.
- Next to Cases folder, click Change Folder….
- Pick a folder inside your cloud-synced area — for example:
- iCloud Drive (Mac)
- Dropbox
- OneDrive
- Google Drive
- The app moves your cases there and reads/writes them in that location from then on.
Your cloud service syncs those files to your other machines automatically. Install ADR Sentinel on a second device, point its Cases folder at the same synced location, and your cases follow you. Use Open in Finder to see the files anytime.
One important caution
Cloud sync copies files; it doesn't merge them. Don't open the same case on two devices at the same time — if you edit on both, your sync provider will create a "conflict copy" and you'll have to reconcile them by hand. Work in one place at a time and let the sync settle before switching machines.
What stays private
Nothing leaves your machine except through the cloud service you chose and control. ADR Sentinel itself transmits no case data — that's true whether or not you use cloud sync. See Where your case data lives for the full picture, including the automatic local backups.
