Running a blind round
Last updated: 2026-05-27
A blind round is a negotiation mechanism where multiple parties contribute amounts simultaneously without seeing each other's numbers. It's most common in Construction cases where you collect contributions from each Subcontractor before revealing the total to the Plaintiff.
When to use a blind round
Use a blind round when:
- The amounts depend on each contributor not knowing what the others are offering (avoiding anchoring).
- You want to collect a coordinated total without forcing parties to negotiate against each other directly.
- You're testing whether the room can reach a target without unmasking individual positions.
For straight back-and-forth between two parties, just record offers and demands — don't reach for a blind round.
Recording a blind round
- Open the case and click the Blind Rounds tab.
- Click + New Blind Round.
- Pick a target party (typically the Plaintiff) and the contributors (typically each Subcontractor). The contributors are the parties whose numbers will be collected privately.
- Optionally name the round (e.g. Round 3 — after lunch).
- As each contributor gives you a number, enter it next to their name. The number stays masked in the visible roster until you reveal the round.
- Click Reveal to show the aggregated total and any commentary you want to record.
The round is timestamped and stored in the case ledger. You can edit or re-run it later, and the entry shows up in the Working Log.
What gets shared with the parties
Only the aggregated total is shared at reveal. Individual contributions stay private to you unless you choose to disclose them. This preserves the room dynamic you set up when you opened the round.
